E-challan or virtual court?
Where you pay depends on where the challan is now.
| E-challan | Virtual court | |
|---|---|---|
| When | Pending, not sent to court | Sent to court, often after staying unpaid |
| Official site | echallan. |
vcourts.gov.in |
| Amount | Shown on the challan | The fine the court proposes |
| If it’s wrong | Raise it with the traffic police | Contest it and get a court date |
Before you pay
A challan in court works a little differently.
- The amount can change. The court decides the final fine, so it can differ from the challan.
- Some can’t be paid online. A few offences can only be settled by the court itself.
- Pay in one place only. A payment can take time to show on another site, so don’t pay twice.
- Watch out for scams. Never share an OTP or pay from a link sent by SMS or WhatsApp.
Questions
Can’t find yours? Contact us and we’ll help.
What is a virtual court?
An online court under the e-Courts project, where traffic challans can be settled without going to a courtroom.
How do I know if my challan is in virtual court?
Enter your vehicle number above. We show the challans that are in court, along with the court’s name.
Why did my challan go to court?
Usually because it stayed unpaid, often for 60 to 90 days. The period depends on the state and the offence, and some offences go to court sooner.
What happens if I don’t pay?
The case can move to a regular court, which may send a summons. Unpaid challans can also hold up RTO work, like selling your vehicle.
How do I get my receipt again?
If you paid on vcourts.gov.in, search for your case again, click View, then Reprint, and verify with an OTP.
What if my state or department isn’t listed?
Not every department is on the official portal. If you can’t find yours, contact the traffic police or the district court where the challan was issued.
Can a court challan be settled in a Lok Adalat?
In some states, yes. Lok Adalats can take up pending traffic challans, but dates and registration differ by state. Check with your traffic police or state legal services authority.
Can I check by challan number?
Not on this page: it needs the vehicle number. You can look up a challan number on the e-challan page.
Is Vahan Radar the official virtual court website?
No. Vahan Radar is an independent service, not a government or court website. The records are the government’s, and we can’t correct them or cancel a fine.
Is it free to check?
Yes. Checking is free and needs no sign-up. Paying through Vahan Radar adds a convenience fee of ₹99 per challan, GST included.
